Sudden, unexplained weight loss.
Severe anaemia that 12 months of iron tablets did nothing to correct.
Osteoporosis – a bone density scan revealed that at 52 I had the bones of a 90-year-old with no improvement shown in a second scan taken 12 months later after taking high doses of calcium.
These symptoms were all treated by doctors but as unrelated health problems until the ‘dots were joined together’ by Dr J Centre of the Bones and Calcium Clinic at St Vincents Hospital, Sydney and my Coeliac disease was diagnosed. I would also like to say that all of these conditions were, in time, corrected by my Gluten-free diet.
I hope this helps others to recognise that seemingly unrelated ‘non gut’ conditions are in fact symptoms of Coeliac Disease.
