Coeliac Australia Accredited partner, Wholegreen Bakery wins award!

A gluten-free bakery has won the highest accolade in the Australian food industry – the Champion award for their Chocolate Éclair at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show 2021, a national competition discovering Australia’s best fine food producers.

Wholegreen Bakery is a 100% gluten-free Sydney-based bakery that has built up a following of devoted customers of both coeliacs and non-coeliacs over the past seven years.

A panel of industry specialists judged Wholegreen Bakery’s gluten-free éclair against other choux pastries containing gluten and deemed it better than the glutenous entries, something many people may find surprising.

As Cherie Lyden, owner of Wholegreen Bakery says, “It’s enormously challenging to produce excellence in the gluten-free world – this award proves that gluten-free can be not just as good but better than glutenous food, and it makes all the hard work and endless experimentation perfecting our products worthwhile. To be named a Champion in such an important competition is such an honour and we thank the judges for the recognition.”

Wholegreen Bakery also won a Gold award for their Chocolate Éclair, as well as Bronze awards for their Beef & Onion Pie, Lemon Meringue Tart and Lemon Tart.

This year there were 1,243 entries across 58 classes of the competition with 24 Championships which were awarded across the following competitions: Pasta, Oil & Olives, Branded Meat, Smallgoods & Charcuterie, Specialty Foods and Professional Bakery (four champion awards across bread, cake, biscuit and pastry). A further 137 Gold, 371 Silver and 368 Bronze Sydney Royal medals were awarded.

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) has rewarded agricultural excellence since its establishment in 1822, setting the benchmark for distinction through the Sydney Royal Easter Show and the Sydney Royal Wine, Cheese & Dairy Produce, Beer & Cider, National Honey and Fine Food Shows.
