We can catch coeliac disease earlier. But we need your help.

4 out of 5 people with coeliac disease remain undiagnosed. That’s more than 290,000 Australians living with unexplained symptoms—tiredness, stomach pain, mood changes, nutrient deficiencies—and no clear answers.

Coeliac Australia’s 2025 Tax Appeal is raising funds to support national screening programs that can change this.

Isaac’s Journey

Isaac’s symptoms started early. He was constantly fatigued, fell behind in growth, and experienced years of discomfort. At age six, he was finally diagnosed with coeliac disease—after years of missed opportunities and ongoing worry.

With early screening, Isaac could have had answers sooner. He could have avoided the uncertainty, the emotional toll, and the long list of appointments that didn’t lead anywhere.

Isaac’s story isn’t uncommon—but it doesn’t have to be the norm.

Consider screening for coeliac disease

Your results indicate you have one or more symptoms or risk factors for coeliac disease.

We recommend that you make an appointment with your doctor to discuss screening for coeliac disease. The first step is a simple blood test. For the coeliac disease blood test to be accurate, you need to consume an adequate amount of gluten in your diet. If you have already reduced or removed gluten from your diet, it is important that you tell your doctor this as it will affect the approach taken to testing.
